“My fiance and I just wanted to send you a big “thank you” for the limo last Tuesday.  Everything was perfect!  The driver was very nice and helpful, and took us through some very beautiful parts of the Plaza.  It was a very pleasant evening.  My fiance was truly surprised, and had never been in a limo before (which I did not realize earlier), making it that much more special and exciting.  This could not have been possible without your generosity.  Thank you so much!

Pech Limousine felt honored to be the official parade limo for 2010!  We were asked to drive the judges to the grandstand for the second year in a row.   We chose our 30-passenger SUV Excursion stretch to get the job done in style.  Even our 1954 Bentley was part of the fun; we escorted 83-year-0ld Jodi Watson, bagpiper, at the front of the line!  This is Watson’s 24th consecutive year participating in Kansas City’s St. Patrick’s Day parade.  His longstanding as a renouned musician has earned him the nickname The Lonely Piper, or The Lone Piper.  Watson waved enthusiastically to many onlookers who knew him by name and made sure the Bentley made a dramatic pause at the judges’ stand.

What I do when I’m not driving: Watch football. Good or bad years, I’m always a Chiefs fan.

Personal cars: Mercury Grand Marquis and a Lincoln Towncar.

First car: A 1960 F85 Oldsmobile. It was the predecessor of the Cutlass, but it looked nothing like the Cutlass. I bought it when I was 18 from one of my high school teachers. I wore it out; I didn’t know much about cars then — even how to change the oil.

Favorite limo moment: Meeting Sparky Anderson, the baseball manager. He was here to visit Ewing Kauffman a month before Mr. Kauffman died. I didn’t recognize him but I kept looking at him because he looked familiar, and he said, “I’m Sparky Anderson.” I hadn’t recognized him because whenever I’d seen him, he was wearing his uniform and cap.

Why I Drive: I just love to drive. I love meeting all the new people — you don’t feel like you’re working. It’s not just the same old, same old.

What I do when I’m not driving: I enjoy life after having raised four children as a single parent.

Personal car: 2002 PT Cruiser. The gas economy is better than the Jeep I had!

First car: A 1967 Camaro convertible Supersport. It was yellow with a black top. Wish I had it now!

Favorite limo moment: The neatest one was a wedding, a trip I did to Des Moines, Iowa, for some Czech people. I got to drive the whole thing — wedding, reception, all of it. I liked all their customs. We drove in a long procession all over town — ten cars with flags on them, all honking horns!

The ’63 has a V-8 engine, making it more powerful than the 1950s Bentleys in Pech’s fleet, which are equipped with in-line 6-cylinder motors. The 1963 Saloon also has a slightly sleeker body style, making it a good compromise between old-fashioned charm and a slightly more modern look.

Why I Drive: I love being mobile. I was tied to a desk (not literally, but sometimes it felt that way) for 26 years. Now I’m out and about, indulging my restless nature.

What I do when I’m not driving: I have many obsessions. I love walking, kayaking, bicycling, and traveling. Wow … that all involves motion, too, doesn’t it? Maybe I’ve read William Least Heat-Moon’s “Blue Highways” one too many times!

Personal car: 2006 Mercury Montego. I thought it was kind of an “old man” car when I got it, but now I love the smooth ride. Plus, I’m getting to be kind of a geezer, so it fits.

First car: 1966 Chevrolet Impala. It had a 327 V8 engine with a racing cam. I went through two clutches while I had it, much to my dad’s displeasure. The car was very, very fast. I scared a few passengers with it.

Favorite limo moment: I was driving a prom in April, and the kids kept putting the divider up and down. On one of the “up” cycles, one of the girls said to her friend, “But I like SEEING him!” I took it as a compliment.

Nickname: I like bow ties. A couple of my passengers have referred to me as “The Penguin.”

Hometown: Kansas City, Mo.

Specialty: Erin drives some of Pech’s classic cars, including the 1954 Bentley Saloon.

Why I Drive: It’s a change of pace from the office (Erin helps staff the phones and does many other things at Pech Limo) and it pays better than the office. Plus it’s nice to get to meet some of the people I’ve talked to on the phone.

What I do when I’m not driving: I make jewelry and work on my etsy store (meadowbellemarket.etsy.com). And I play and teach piano.

Personal car: (Editor’s note — There seems to be some debate over the answer to this question, so let’s just stick to the following exchange between Erin and her fiancee, Slawik Pech) – Slawik: “Volvo station wagon.” Erin: “Personal car? I don’t have one!” Slawik: “Your junk is all over that car.”

First car: 2000 Chevy Cavalier (which my twin sister, Aundrea, still has).

Favorite limo moment: When we took my grandma and grandpa out for a present over the holidays. I wasn’t driving, though; I was a passenger. They were in their 80s and neither had been in a limo before. It was great to see how much fun they had.

Nickname: None. My name’s pretty short.

Thoughts on the challenges of being a female driver: People are hesitant to let me open doors — especially grooms at weddings — or handing me luggage. You kind of have to coach people that it’s all right. And the Bentleys have no power steering; they are hard to turn from a standstill.
